Theletters RAA and the letter ZAAY
The letter “Raa“ looks like a half curved line in the shape of an arc with its lower part going more downwards compared to the letters “Daal” and “Dhaal”. It is pronounced like the letter R, but note that when there is fatha or damma above it, it is pronounced harder and when there is kassra it is softer, using the tip of the tongue and the palate. It is joined only from the right side.
The letter “Zaay” has the same shape as the letter “Raa”. The only difference is that this letter has a small dot above it which is a part of the letter. It is pronounced like the letter “Z“ in the word “buzz“. This letter also belongs to the group of letters that can be joined only from their right side. We call it sharp “Z“.
